R&B singer Mary J. Blige may be gearing up for the 2022 Superbowl halftime show in Los Angeles – but she still has time to sing some Shabbat songs.

Blige, along with rapper LL Cool J and Israeli singer Itay Levi, who recently performed some US shows, enjoyed a Shabbat dinner together recently at the home of mutual friends in New York.

When hosts Ronny and Tali Seliktar led a rousing rendition of “Shalom Aleichem,” the traditional tune that begins the Friday night dinner, their guests – including multi-Grammy winners Blige and rapper/NCIS star LL Cool J – all clapped along.

Blige, wearing an aqua-coloured top and signature blonde hair, offered a rousing “Amen” at the song’s conclusion, while LL Cool J hugged Seliktar and said, “You invite ’em in, right?” a reference to the song’s lyrics, which are an invitation in Hebrew for angels to join the Shabbat gathering.

The Seliktars, who own a company called Select Jewelry, are friendly with both Levi as well as Blige and LL Cool J, and in classic Jewish spirit, wanted the singers to meet one another, according to a source present.

There is word yet on whether any celebrity angels attended.
