FOUNDER and CEO of Little Dreamers, Madeleine Buchner (pictured), has been awarded the title of Young Victorian of the Year, which was announced last weekend.

Expressing gratitude, Buchner remarked, “I am honoured and humbled to be named Young Victorian of the Year. This award is a testament to the many young carers in our community who are working hard to balance their caring responsibilities with their studies, extracurricular activities and social lives.”

She told The AJN, “I am grateful for the support of my family, friends and mentors, who have helped me along the way.”

As the Young Victorian of the Year, Buchner is steadfast in her commitment to advocating for the needs of young carers and using her platform to bring attention to their experiences.

“I also plan to utilise this platform to share the stories of young carers, amplifying their voices and fostering understanding.”

Having grown up as a young carer herself, Buchner is immensely proud of her journey and is “excited to see what the future holds for Young Carers in Australia.”

The announcement of Buchner as Young Victorian of the Year coincides with “unprecedented levels of growth” at Little Dreamers Australia.

“Our programs [are] reaching more young carers than ever before,” Buchner shared.

“Young carers often face neglect and insufficient support. Little Dreamers continues to bridge this gap by providing essential services making a genuine impact on the lives of young individuals across Australia.

“If you know a young carer, please encourage them to reach out to Little Dreamers. We are here to provide the support they need to flourish.”
